German Design Council China - Video production and content marketing for international design excellence
From the award ceremony to a sustainable communication moment
Our approach: think strategically, manage editorially, deliver productively
The project started well before the actual shooting date. Together with the German Design Council China team, we defined requirements and target groups, sharpened topics and statements and identified suitable product focuses. We viewed visual material, held preliminary discussions and developed individual storyboards for each portrait. Our editorial work formed the basis for all further steps - from preparing the interview questions and coordinating the teams to the actual organisation of the filming situation. In direct dialogue with the videographers, we coordinated the visual language and process in both pre-production and editing.
On the day of the event, we were interview partners and contact persons for all those involved in front of and behind the camera to ensure content, tonality and timing. We also provided editorial support for the videos during post-production, gave editing feedback and ensured that the final films were of the highest standard in terms of both form and content.

The result: video portraits with charisma
The result is a series of videos that are more than mere documentation. Each portrait tells a story - emotional, visually strong, editorially well thought out. In this way, the films have been successfully created as building blocks of an international content marketing strategy:

The challenge: visualising diversity
The diversity of the German Design Awards categories is further enhanced by the diverse group of international award winners. Different languages, cultural backgrounds and focal points made the concept particularly challenging.
Each interview had to be designed individually, but at the same time maintain a coherent content line. This is the only way to create a pool of content that can be used across all channels.

For the German Design Council China, we developed a customised content marketing concept with a strategic video production around the German Design Awards. The aim was to strengthen the international visibility of the award winners, extend the emotional power of the award and create brand-relevant video content with a long-term impact.
The occasion: an international stage for outstanding design
The German Design Award is one of the most prestigious design awards in the world. Every year, manufacturers and designers from all over the world travel to Frankfurt to receive their award in person. We wanted to take advantage of this festive encounter - as the basis for a multimedia communication measure that would carry the appeal of the award beyond the event itself. The focus was on a series of high-quality video portraits that tell personal stories, make people visible - and thus extend the impact of the award in the media. They were to be used as a content marketing tool both for the German Design Council itself and for its international award winners.
