– With the ICONIC AWARDS 2025, the German Design Council is ushering in a new era: for the first time, the previously separate formats “Innovative Architecture” and “Interior Products” are being merged into one cross-disciplinary award. This creates a platform that unites architecture, interior design and product innovation and elevates international dialogue in the industry to a new level.

The newly conceived international design award brings architecture, interior design and product innovation together on one stage for the first time.

“We see a special opportunity here to create synergies and bring the entire value chain together on one stage,” explains Lutz Dietzold, CEO of the German Design Council. The ambition: to make excellence visible, foster innovation and address the major challenges of our time – from sustainability and circular economy to digital transformation.

A strong stage for the future

With five main and 42 subcategories, the ICONIC AWARDS provide the largest stage of their kind. New categories such as “Circular Design,” “Healthcare” and “Office and Workplace” reflect the urgent issues of our time. Alongside established architectural firms and design studios, young talents will also be in the spotlight: the special award “Debut Work of the Year,” endowed with €10,000, is dedicated to supporting promising first works.

One example of the award’s international significance is Spanish designer Lucas Muñoz Muñoz, named Interior Designer of the Year. With his radical approach to material reuse and experimental spatial concepts, he demonstrates how bold design can translate sustainable principles into new forms – as seen in the MO de Movimiento project in Madrid. The ICONIC AWARDS 2025 will be decided by an international jury of experts from architecture, design and research, who critically reflect on trends and honor outstanding projects.

Meeting point of the international design scene

More than a competition, the ICONIC AWARDS understand themselves as a networking and discourse platform. With architecture magazine DETAIL as media partner and a comprehensive event program, exchange and inspiration are actively promoted.
